On October 21st, Eliyah Qureshi hosted the national event, The Big Draw at Fullwell Cross Library. The club launched its first group art exhibition for the creatives who had registered with Barkingside Art Club and assisted us at the event. The Big Draw Festival is the world’s biggest celebration of drawing that promotes visual literacy and the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention. The Big Draw demonstrates the social, economic and health benefits that drawing can bring and provides opportunities for everyone to access them.

The events on the 21st had a wonderful turn-out and our hall in Fullwell Cross Library was filled with focused creatives and excited families creating art work. Asides from promoting art culture, one of main focuses of the event was to promote the idea of inclusion. This was a great success as several autistic children attended with their families and had a wonderful time creating art work. They were given a comfortable and supportive social environment thereby strengthening our community ties.

We also collaborated with Fullwood Primary School, whose students created a large collage of artistic jigsaw pieces. Each jigsaw expressed different forms of cultural and individual diversity in order to solve the issues behind inclusion.

Our event had three business sponsors who attended and provided excellent services, helping to make this event a success. This included our main sponsor, Rich Hair Salon, who provided free makeup for parents with discount vouchers. Coffee Time provided us with exquisite food and drink throughout the day, keeping the busy families energised. Bubbly-O led fun art activities for children which kept children entertained and intrigued - be sure to check out Bubbly-O’s activities.

We've had a great start to Barkingside Art Club and we're organising plenty of enjoyable events for the future. Stay tuned !
