Barkingside’s summer of outdoor art programme at Ken Aston Square FROM JUNE TO SEPTEMBER

Welcome to the Barkingside Art Club's BIG DRAW FESTIVAL 2023

**Big Draw Theme: #DrawingwithSenses**

At Barkingside Art Club, we're excited to invite you to our upcoming art workshop with a twist! This time, we're exploring the world of drawing through different sizes and surfaces, from small sticky notes to large-scale cloth canvases. Drawing is a universal language that connects us with our inner creativity, and we'll be drawing inspiration from famous artists to guide and support you throughout the process.

**Join Artist Eliyah Qureshi and Her Team**

Eliyah Qureshi and her team, along with our creative ambassadors, will be your guides on this artistic journey. We'll delve into the world of drawing on various surfaces, experimenting with different mediums, and celebrating the diversity of artistic expression.

**Outdoor Art Event - September 23rd at Ken Aston Square**

But that's not all! We invite you to join us on the 23rd of September as part of our outdoor art event at Ken Aston Square. It promises to be a day filled with creativity and entertainment. Don't miss the amazing performances by international touring contemporary circus artists Blaze and touring circus chef/clown Fatina, a mother and daughter duo. Prepare to be dazzled by plate spinning, food juggling, and fire blazing!

**Where Creativity Knows No Limits - Welcome to Spectrum Studio!**

Embracing the full spectrum of imagination is at the heart of what we do. Spectrum Studio is our haven where creativity intertwines with inclusivity. For the past six years, we've dedicated ourselves to nurturing creativity within the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) community in Redbridge and beyond. Through inclusive art workshops, collaborations with local institutions, and outreach to neighboring boroughs, we've championed awareness for diverse spectrums and disabilities.

Our mission is to create a welcoming space for everyone, including families with members on various spectrums and disabilities. The Hainault room will be transformed into Spectrum Studio, providing families with a sanctuary for creative expression and a balcony vantage point for performances – an environment that epitomizes inclusivity and engagement.

As a mother to a child with special needs, an art educator, a local artist, and a steward of an inclusive club, this endeavor is deeply personal. Our participation in Vision Redbridge's outdoor event is an opportunity to connect with like-minded families and unveil our new projects and initiatives for SEND children and youth at Ken Aston Square.

**Join Us in Celebrating Artistry Without Bounds**

Visual art exercises and communal projects are essential for the development of children and youth with diverse spectrums and disabilities. Spectrum Studio aims to provide a platform where everyone can unleash their creativity, regardless of their abilities. It's a safe, encouraging, and all-encompassing environment, resonating with the essence of unity.

In conclusion, Spectrum Studio's doors are wide open, inviting all to cultivate and unleash their imaginative fervor. Whether you're a SEND child or adolescent, a family member, or a member of the community, we invite you to join us as we celebrate artistry in all its forms. To secure your spot, please reach out to us at studio@barkingsideartclub.com or contact Eliyah at 07889829218. Welcome to a realm where creativity takes flight without bounds.

**The 2023 Big Draw Festival Theme: #DrawingwithSenses**

This year's Big Draw Festival theme, #DrawingwithSenses, encourages us to explore how we personally process the world and internalise our experiences through our senses. We're delving into the five basic senses: Touch, Sight, Sound, Taste, and Smell, and experimenting with these and other subtle senses to create meaningful and creative artwork in 2023.

In a world where external forces often feel overwhelming, focusing on our senses and our internal experiences can bring positivity and connection. Beyond the physical senses, there are subtle senses that connect us with our environment and inner knowing, sometimes referred to as the 'Sixth Sense.' Artists like Alberto Giacometti believed in capturing the essence of a person through intense focus on specific sensory experiences.

Different cultures recognize additional senses, such as the 'inner 5 senses' in Sufiism, which interact with our physical senses to shape our perceptions. For The Big Draw Festival 2023, 'Drawing with Senses' invites you to choose to experience the world through your senses, both familiar and less so, and translate these experiences into your drawings. It's about using your senses as you create art—Drawing with Senses. Join us for a journey of artistic exploration like never before!

We can't wait to embark on this creative journey with you. See you at our workshop and outdoor art event!

Children will take part in a creative activity during a workshop that will be led by Eliyah Qureshi and her team. The activity will centre on the discovery of different foods and eating patterns. Every child is going to be guided through the process of developing their very own food monster by providing them with visual cues and encouraging them to think about the foods that are their favourite.
