ARTS AWARDS

What is it?

Arts Awards are a range of unique qualifications that support anyone aged up to 25, in order to grow as artists and arts leaders, inspiring them to connect with, and take part in the wider art world. Young people take on challenges in an Art Form, participate in Arts Activities and experience Arts Events whilst becoming inspired by artists and through leading others. The flexible framework of the Award can be based around any arts or media activities, and reflects many interests and ambitions. It encourages individual development, whilst also helping young people define their creative futures.

Arts Award is managed by Trinity College London in association with the Arts Council England, working with 10 regional bridge organisation. It is delivered by trained advisors all over the country. For more information, please visit: www.artsaward.org.uk

How ARE THEY delivered at Barkingside Art Club?

Barkingside Art Club is an Arts Award Centre based at Fullwell Cross Library, which supports young people in completing their Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold Arts Award qualifications. BAC’s learning programme supports individual creative development, and places young people at the heart of the Arts Award process.

Through the term, children will have access to weekly art club sessions, for guidance in the Explore through Bronze Art Award levels, requirements for gaining these awards is embedded in our programmes which covers a variety of art techniques and media such as drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, sketchbook-making, print-making and design.

By participating in Arts Awards young people can embrace their understanding of art practitioners, movements, techniques and history associated with them by learning to record their progress and developing confidence in presenting their knowledge. To see the full BAC programme please visit our workshop pages.

The Explore Arts Award can also be delivered on an outreach basis at your venue; either organisation or school, by experienced BAC staff. The fee may vary so please contact us to find out more.

Young Minds

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO GAIN VALUABLE work EXPERIENCE WITH ART AWARDS.

We understand the difficulties young people face to find employment and qualifications outside of the mainstream education system, this is especially difficult for those who experience financial difficulties, are in the care system, and those who have special educational needs. To tackle this problem we have created the ‘Young Minds’ programme, which facilitates the achievement of Silver and Gold Art Awards while volunteering with us here at Barkingside Art Club during workshops and projects.

It is a great way for young people aged between 16-25 to gain valuable work experience, learn new skills, build their CV to gain employment and continue to further education as the Gold Art Award is worth 16 UCAS tariff points.

Volunteers on the ‘Young Minds’ programme will receive mentorship through 1-2-1 sessions with the designated Art Award Advisor. By volunteering with BAC they will receive opportunities to work in areas within the industry which interest them the most i.e. photography, marketing, social media, event organising, workshop delivery. We encourage our volunteers to get involved with BAC’s network of artists and gain experience by shadowing the work of art practitioners.

Students participating in Art Awards will have access to IT and printing facilities, a sketchbook or help with setting up an online blog to record your progress (for those aged 16 and above). Our volunteers under our Young Minds programme will also have access to Creative Studio Space during term time for the duration of completing their award. Although we provide guidance and information whenever needed, we encourage our volunteers to take ownership of their progress to gain most out of this experience, this includes committing up to 2 hours a week to the Art Awards programme.
