This year, Barkingside Art Club is excited to announce that it will be organising and hosting its very first Art Trail across Barkingside and surrounding areas. The goal of this project is to bring about community spirit and connect the community, schools and local businesses through art and culture activities to create a stronger and better community in terms of the environment including recycling and also socially to encore more acceptance and unity among residents where a week long artist led event will feature artwork created by local residents  where your  local high street will become  a gallery!

Project Rubbish Mini Me!

This project named Rubbish Mini Me  aims to focus on the specific themes of human form, mental heath and recycling in which local residents, schools, charities, businesses and artists will be asked to accumulate their recyclable waste generated by one individual during the month of May and then create their own sculpture representing themselves through  one of the themes as part of our contribution to help the earth’s sustainability.

The project will promote recycling and make us aware of our everyday habits which effects our mental health making us ponder about how we manage the rubbish we create and reflect on our day to day living life style and eating habits while educating others on human form through artistic vision and recycling.

Registration

Residents  who wish to take part  will need to register their interest via the online form in order to receive the Barkingside Art Trail pack which will include detailed instructions about the trail along with help on how to create the final masterpieces.

Local businesses can also register their interest if they want their place to be used as a  local venue for artists to display their work and to feature in our first Art Trail.

Sculpture creation

The month of May will be devoted to collecting the recycling and carefully planning and crafting the

Rubbish Mini Me sculptures. These sculptures can be planned and made by getting a group of family, friends or children  together in a house or a café to join forces and create the best sculptures ever made using recyclable waste. Barkingside Art Club are happy to assist and welcome schools and youth groups to come down to Fullwell Cross Library  where workshops will be held for participants of this project to get together and  create their sculptures while getting to know local residents and working together. At the same time, our workshop leaders can visit schools and run sessions during school hours. Alternatively you can just fill in the online form and submit your artwork to us at the library. Once all of the sculptures have been made, they will be put up in the library for members of the community to view the creative pieces of work.

Art Trail launch

The Art Trail itself will then  be launched in June on the day of the Summer outdoor art programme which is run by vision Redbridge in which we celebrate National Children’s Art Week. This will be held for a week where your Rubbish Mini Me sculptures will take pride and be displayed in the windows of local businesses and shops for everyone to view. A  list of local places where artists have displayed their work will be updated on the website ready for you to begin the Art Trail.

During the week, family, friends and local residents can get together and walk around Barkingside  while  following  the trail to  see these wonderful creations and if one sculpture catches your eye or resonates with you deeply, you will be able to purchase the bespoke one off piece to take home for yourself.

This Art Trail hopes to strengthen mental health within the community  and allow local residents to find the artist within themselves. We  hope the community can come together and celebrate culture and promote sustainability for better and healthy living so we need your support and involvement in this monumental project and we  look forward to joining you in this exciting endeavour.
