Exhibition 15th December postponed - TO BE UPDATED

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 our in-person Winter exhibition on Wednesday 15th December at The Window Gallery and Art Space in Fullwell Cross Library has been postponed. We’re very sorry for any disappointment that this will cause and hope to deliver the exhibition as soon as it’s safe to do so.

We’re looking into the option of hosting an exciting online exhibition in it's place, to be shared with parents and family and we will update you soon with our plans. We will make sure children still receive the awards they have earned, as this recognition is very important. In this case, we will be sending out consent forms for filming this video soon.

Opportunities

We have opportunities arising for both voluntary and paid positions.

Volunteers

This could be the perfect way to gain experience in visual arts education. Tasks are varied and basic training is given where necessary. Your tasks could include social media promotion, photography, assisting with exhibitions, website work, organising workshops and preparing and supporting our admin and communications manager. Read more about the role and apply here.

Jobs

We are looking for a skilled workshop assistant! The role includes preparing, completing and running workshops, teaching art skills and engaging with attendees (children and adults). This role will ideally suit a new graduate or an individual wanting to gain experience within the industry. Full DBS is required (we will cover the cost of this). Read more about the role and how to apply here.

Student Workshop Helpers

We are looking for students to become Workshop Helpers! This is available to BAC students who go the extra mile in classes and show promising talent in visual arts. Becoming a Workshop Helper provides you with an opportunity to work with us across a variety of roles and gain enhanced experience working within a creative arts organisation. Our Workshop Helpers will enjoy building their futures with transferable skills and adding valuable skills and references to their portfolios. Read more about this opportunity here.

A note to parents/CARERS

the Winter Exhibition and Work Collection

The time for the Barkingside Art Club Winter exhibition is approaching - save the date for the opening event on Wednesday 15th December.

In preparation for this, our team is selecting artworks from throughout the term which represent an array of the mediums and themes that the children have been learning - as well as highlighting contributions where students have shown exceptional effort, passion and creative flair.

We are grateful to have so many talented regular students and hope you can understand that we will (sadly) be unable to show every piece of artwork that we love in the exhibition. We will be sending lots of incredible work home with the children to share with their families and would love your feedback on these too - do tag us in pictures if you post any online!

Some work will remain with us to be proudly displayed at the exhibition from 15th Dec until the New Year when it can be collected.

We hope to welcome each of you at the exhibition, to come together and celebrate a wonderful Winter Term.

Booking ahead for 2022 Workshops

We are currently (excitedly) planning the workshops for Spring Term 2022, beginning on Wednesday 5th January.

Upcoming workshops will go live on our website before the end of term in December. These will then be available to book via the website.

All of our sessions are inclusive and we are flexible in our approach to teaching art so that everyone can work to their full potential. Children and adults with SEN and learning difficulties are always welcome.

Creative Wednesdays

Wednesday Family Workshop (18mths - 5 years) 10-11am

We are running family art workshops on Wednesdays where we will be exploring your creativity as a family. Our family sessions happen in the mornings – so you can just pop in after a school run and or start your day with your child with artistic play!

These easy going, yet inspiring and skills focused classes cover, but are not limited to: drawing (graphite, pencil, sharpie, watercolour pencils, pastels) painting (acrylics, watercolour, ink) printing (relief printing, linocut, mono-printing, screen printing) and mixed media (collage, digital art, projector).

home ed club (5-16 Years)

Wednesday 1:30-2:30pm

Our Family Home Ed Art Club is a space for the growth and enjoyment of young, aspiring artists from a home-ed background. The course invites children with parents, or independently.

The club provides a great opportunity to learn a variety of art techniques whilst coming together in a hands-on environment using a wide range of materials. The session is taught by engaging participants in the practical side of creation and promoting their free-spirit and creativeness - which we use to guide and strengthen their understanding of core techniques and colour theories in a fun-loving, instinctive way.

Please note the Wednesday and Friday dates will teach the same class each week.

Wednesday CREATIVE STUDIO SPACE and ART CLASSES For Adults 12-2pm

The Creative Studio Space is a network of artists who live locally and share the same passion, so it is a great way to meet others with similar interests and share your knowledge.

This time is also used for adults art classes in painting and printmaking, which can be viewed and booked via the website.

We often use the Creative Studio Space for 1 to 1 mentorship sessions, to give portfolio advice and to discuss projects with guest artists. We have also met artists at the Creative Studio Space sessions who are now working with us to expand their practice and will continue to work with us by delivering BAC projects as guest artists in the future.

SEND HOUR

SEN Hour is a free weekly session run by our founder Eliyah Qureshi for children with Special Educational Needs who attend local mainstream schools. The programme aims to improve social relationships through art and develop a connection with the library, as well as familiarise them with the process of finding and borrowing a book.

The first half of the workshop is dedicated to teaching pupils about browsing through books with the guidance of their LSA and library staff, to help them build a more familiar relationship with the library. The second half is dedicated to exploring various art techniques and learning new skills, which encourages pupils to explore their creativity. At the end of the session, children create an art piece inspired by either their chosen book or by exploring different art materials and techniques. These sessions are mutually beneficial - as it helps to create a common understanding of methods of communication between our students and the library staff.

SEND Girls Friday Art Club (9-16 years) 5-7 pm

Barkingside Art Club is home to the only workshop in the local area specifically designed for girls on the Autistic spectrum, other learning and physical difficulties with their families and siblings.

These are sessions where sen girls who are so often overlooked in day to day life can explore activities in a creative environment, within comfortable surroundings and with guidance from dedicated mentors experienced with working with SEN children.

As well as art workshops which explore a variety of techniques and materials via printmaking, painting, drawing or sculpture, the SEN Girls Creative Social Club also offers an additional activity delivered by guest mentors alongside the art workshops, so our participants can choose what they’d like to do best. This term we have focused on Bollywood dance, with guidance from professional dance teachers each week.

Open call for local artists

Calling all local artists and creatives! Are you looking for an exciting new project? We have a golden opportunity for you to share your art, and your practise with the community!

This is an exciting chance to be involved with BAC’s Artist Open Call at Fullwell Cross Library. This residency style project aims to unite artists from different disciplines and will be made available to artists all year round on a bi-monthly basis.

This project has been developed to give underrepresented artists in Redbridge a creative space where they can freely create and exhibit work. Artists will also be asked to host their workshops for the local community, enabling others to be inspired by their practical work.

This will be a space presenting work from a diverse array of artists and art-forms. Please help to spread the message, tell every artist and creative that you know!

Please visit the ‘Opportunities’ section on our website for more information and how to apply.

you’re invited to Redbridge Women's Network

We are extending the invite - would you like to be involved with the Redbridge Women’s Network? This is a platform for women from the Borough of Redbridge to come together, to build relationships and create opportunities for and with each other. Previously we hosted a pop-up market and art exhibition, featuring performances from a local professional Bollywood dancer and held an inspiring talk with the UK’s youngest female CEO.

By creating this space to promote inspiring stories, we aim to celebrate each participating women’s lifestyle, highlight overcoming barriers and increase awareness of present issues in society.
